Jumpstart Federal Flood Assistance Programs

On October 27th, Governor Chet Culver announced the allocation of $45 million in federal community development block grants (CDBG) to communities and counties across Iowa, and wants all Iowans to be aware of where they can apply for financial assistance. The CDBG funds will be used to continue the Jumpstart Iowa initiative, a housing and small business program designed to help Iowans affected by this years devastating severe weather.

The $45 million allocation is part of $85 million in federal emergency CDBG funds that Iowa has received to date. The remainder of the first round of CDBG funds is being used for housing buy outs, new home construction, hazard mitigation, and public infrastructure improvements.

Governor Culver also announced today that the US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development has approved nearly $72 million out of the remaining $200 million in disaster CDBG grants for Iowa disaster relief.

ECICOGs funds are available to flood affected businesses and homeowners located in Benton County, Iowa County, Jones County, Washington County, as well as areas of Linn County outside of Cedar Rapids, and Johnson County outside of Iowa City.

Interested individuals in Cedar Rapids or Iowa City should apply directly to their respective city.
