"How do we begin planning for housing in our community?" This frequently asked question is one that can be answered by the housing staff at ECICOG. Through our wide array of resources and services, we can help implement the housing program that best fits the needs of the community
Some available programs include:
Rehabilitation of owner-occupied and rental units
Mortgage buy-down and down payment assistance programs to assist homebuyers
New construction of single-family or multifamily dwellings
Adaptive reuse of existing buildings
Acquisition, relocation, and demolition
Project development of housing for target populations (e.g., elderly or disabled)
Housing Needs Assessment
A needs assessment will document the current and future housing needs of the community. ECICOG housing staff can assist in the completion of this important first step. First, an extensive research and data collection process is conducted resulting in a baseline inventory of housing in the community. Then, housing needs are identified through surveys, town meetings, and other data review. Recommendations and an action plan are developed to carry out the selected housing initiatives. Assessments can target age or income groups or be a comprehensive review of all income and age groups.
Grant Writing
Each funding source has its own application process, criteria, and timeline. ECICOG housing staff is experienced in writing grant applications, acting as liaison with the funding source, and coordinating the overall grant process.
Grant Administration
ECICOG is a valuable assistant in the administration of projects for grant recipients. Administrative activities often include:
Development of the project's administrative plans, resolutions, and publications
Income verification of applicants
Construction monitoring
Lead Base Paint Hazard Reduction Compliance
Environmental, historical, and labor standards compliance
Filing of progress reports
Monthly monitoring of funds
