Waste Reduction Education and Promotions--Toxicity Reduction

Household Hazardous Waste--On behalf of member landfills, ECICOG coordinates the placement of permanent collection facilities for household hazardous waste. By 2001, all residents of the planning area had access to a facility. ECICOG has a major role in educating citizens about their use.

White Goods--ECICOG makes presentations to member agencies/landfills concerning the proper handling of white goods, particularly the dangers associated with hazardous materials including mercury and freon.

Safe Chemicals in Schools--The ECICOG staff facilitated a task force in 2000 addressing chemicals in schools that has resulted in a workshop for the region's schools personnel and a pilot project addressing the situation.
