Belle Plaine
Organics Management
Pilot Program

The goal of the Belle Plaine Organics Management Program is to encourage residents to reduce and properly manage their yard, food, and other organic waste to not only save money but also reduce their impact on the environment. Yard waste is banned from landfills in Iowa, but other organic wastes like food, coffee grounds, etc. may be disposed of in the landfill. By reducing your organic waste and managing the remainder through composting, you can help save valuable landfill space and reduce methane production, which is a dangerous greenhouse gas for landfill staff and more potent than carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Apply for Compost Bin Rebate

Up to fifty (50) Belle Plaine owner-occupied households qualify for a $75 rebate toward the purchase of a compost bin, tumbler, other composting container, or the supplies to build a compost bin. To qualify for the rebate program, you must be able to provide proof of purchase dated after October 21, 2020. If you build a compost bin, a photo of the structure in addition to proof of purchase for supplies is required to qualify for the rebate. Supplies include building materials only, not tools.

The rebate program will operate on a first come, first serve basis until fifty (50) rebates have been claimed. There are currently 43 rebates remaining. Availability will be updated regularly! If you have any questions, please contact Alicia Presto at the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG) at alicia.presto@ecicog.org or (319) 365-9941 ext. 121.
