On January 12, ECICOG’s Housing Department submitted 11 applications to the Iowa Economic Development Authority for more than $22 million in CDBG Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding, the most ECICOG has ever requested in a single round of CDBG Housing Grants. The applications follow a $57 million derecho-recovery grant awarded to the State of Iowa in 2021 by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Only projects in Benton and Linn County were eligible to apply.

The grant applications are for new construction of either owner-occupied or rental units, and awards are expected to be announced by mid-February. The applications for projects in Linn County include four in Marion, one in Alburnett, one in Center Point, one in Walker, and two in rural locations. In Benton County, the submissions include projects in Atkins and Belle Plaine.
