Impact Grows From Federal Funding Uncertainty

Part of ECICOG’s core mission is to leverage state and federal grants on behalf of our cities, counties, and region. These grants close funding gaps, enabling our communities to address critical needs such as water/sewer facilities upgrades, downtown revitalization, and housing development/rehabilitation. Fees related to grant administration play a large role in the funding of our organization, as only 12-14% of ECICOG’s budget comes from direct contributions from our member counties.

This year has not been business as usual, starting with the freeze on grants in January to the recent government shutdown. Plans for new programs related to lead hazard reduction in housing and brownfield mitigation remain in limbo. Like many of you, we wish for a more streamlined administration process. However, we believe our work demonstrates the value and importance of federal funding for our region. Check out last year’s annual report to learn more.
