Kirkwood Awarded $792,848 Grant to Remodel Hangar for Training Future Aircraft Mechanics


Kirkwood Community College received a grant from the Economic Development Administration to renovate a hangar at the Eastern Iowa Airport for training a new generation of aircraft mechanics. ECICOG helped write this EDA grant and will serve as grant administrator.

The $792,848 grant will be used to remodel an existing aircraft hangar at the Cedar Rapids Airport into a learning facility for the Aviation Maintenance Technician program. The project will add classroom space, a workshop, and access to airport facilities. This EDA grant will be matched with $198,212 in local funds and is expected to create 100 jobs.
