ECICOG has been awarded a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) planning grant of $144,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The award will be used to develop the Eastern Iowa Tri-Region Safety Action Plan for ECICOG and partnering councils of governments: Region 6 Resource Partners and Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission.

These 3 COGs, in collaboration with participating communities within their respective planning boundaries, residents, and state and federal partners will use the SS4A grant to develop a Safety Action Plan. The plan will identify improvements that will increase roadway safety and significantly reduce and eliminate roadway fatalities and serious injuries for all users. Communities and projects identified in the plan will automatically qualify for SS4A construction funding in future years.

The ECICOG portion of this comprehensive plan will address safety issues in the cities located within the Region 10 Regional Planning Affiliation (RPA 10) but outside of the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City metropolitan areas. For more Information contact Transportation Director Mary Rump.
